Marshall Williams, a third generation bay area native, comes from a musical family with members in the San Francisco and Boston Symphonies. He has over 15 years of professional experience in performing, recording, and teaching.
From 2007-2010 Marshall traveled to Europe and performed at international jazz festivals such as Montreux Jazz Festival, Umbria Jazz Festival, and North Sea Jazz Festival. In addition to touring internationally, Marshall has performed at world famous music venues such as Yoshi’s Jazz Club, Julliard, and The Fillmore. He has had the pleasure to play with many world class musicians including Chris Potter, Lenny Williams, and Wycliffe Gordon. In 2010, he and his ensemble were winners of the 33rd Annual Downbeat Magazine’s Outstanding Performance Award.
Marshall’s teaching style is a blend of carefully selected techniques and learning by ear: “I’ve found that students learn best when they are personally interested in the music they are learning. My lesson plans are designed around each student’s individual interests.”
He attended Northwestern University and The California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley, California studying a variety of musical styles and genres. He currently plays professionally in Northern California and is available to teach rock, funk, pop, latin, jazz, R&B, hip hop, as well as music production.
Marshall teaches Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
