Ms. Pallavi Mehta
The history of the sitar goes back to the oldest and richest cultures of Hindustani / Indian Music.
Ms. Pallavi Mehta comes to us as a Master of the Sitar. She is one of the few female satirists in the world, and her absolute dedication and passion for this divine string instrument is beyond question.
Back in Mumbai India, Ms. Pallavi had a large following of students. Starting with one student 26 years ago, the student base grew until she had her own Academy of Music, spending the majority of her time conducting classes in Classical Indian Music, sitar, Indian vocals, Harmonium, and Keyboard.
Ms. Pallavi's ultimate objective is to spread the knowledge of Classical Indian Music far and wide. The opportunity to do that has become a reality now that she has moved to America. She had no idea she would be moving across the street from a music school that has the kind of atmosphere that is perfect for teaching Indian music…beautiful wool carpets of intricate design..just waiting for someone with a sitar to sit on them.
You know what’s really awesome? Ms. Palu is a humble, sweet mature woman with well rounded interests in the fields of journalism, having published a book and various articles on subjects ranging from home management to India Rags. She has interviewed a variety of dignitaries from the field of Indian Art, Music, and Culture. She also has enjoyed being interviewed on radio shows, does fresh flower arranging as a hobby, and loves to cook!
I cannot say enough about this recent addition to Better World Music School. It is an honor and a privilege to have such a fine, talented, experienced musician move across the street and desire to pick up where she left off…
