Jonathan Atleson is a premier classical piano instructor who brings the elite standards of the world’s top music programs directly to his students. With a pedagogical background rooted in two distinct master’s degrees, Jonathan offers a rare depth of knowledge in both advanced performance and music theory.

 

He earned a Master of Music in Piano Performance from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University and a Master of Arts in Music Theory from the Eastman School of Music, where he was awarded the prestigious Sproull Fellowship. This dual expertise ensures that his students develop both technical precision and a deep intellectual understanding of the music they play.

 

What sets Jonathan apart as an instructor is his extensive experience teaching at the collegiate level and his training under legendary figures such as Yoheved Kaplinsky and Fernando Laires. Having served as a Music Theory Teaching Assistant at both Eastman and Peabody, he possesses a unique ability to break down complex musical concepts into accessible lessons for students of all levels.

 

His background teaching undergraduate piano students at the Oberlin College Conservatory further demonstrates his capability to mentor developing pianists through rigorous repertoire and technical challenges.

 

Beyond his academic credentials, Jonathan is a seasoned concert artist who holds a Bachelor of Music from the Oberlin College Conservatory, where he was a Double Dean’s Merit Scholar.
