Lucas Scurti - piano instructor

Lucas Scurti is an accomplished pianist, arranger, composer, and educator specializing in jazz piano performance and instruction. Known for his rich harmonic vocabulary, rhythmic precision, and expressive stage presence, Lucas brings years of high-level performance experience and formal expertise to both the stage and the teaching studio.

He refined his craft at prestigious music institutions, including the world-renowned Conservatório de Tatuí and EMESP Tom Jobim. Throughout his formal training, Lucas deeply explored jazz theory, ensemble performance, and arrangement, performing extensively in big bands, small jazz combos, and chamber ensembles.

As an arranger, his work spans everything from intimate chamber setups to full large-ensemble orchestrations. Notably, his custom arrangements for wind quintet were featured at the premier Virada Cultural showcase at EMESP Tom Jobim. Today, he actively writes for big bands, crafts dynamic charts, and composes original work, including his single "Essa Moça Samba Bem" and an upcoming debut album that merges vibrant rhythmic traditions with modern jazz concepts.

Beyond performance and composition, Lucas is an exceptional jazz piano instructor who excels at making complex musical concepts accessible, intuitive, and deeply rewarding. He has a unique talent for demystifying jazz theory and improvisation, breaking down core concepts—such as modal improvisation, re-harmonization, scales, and chord voicings—into clear, actionable steps that students can apply immediately at the keyboard.

Rooted in his rigorous conservatory background, Lucas ensures that students develop reliable technique, strong sight-reading skills, and acute ear training, all while encouraging them to improvise and discover their own artistic voice.

Drawing from his extensive experience in big bands and jazz combos, he also teaches the practical art of playing with other musicians, placing a strong emphasis on timing, groove, comping, and active listening.

Above all, Lucas brings an adaptable, student-centered approach to every lesson. From building keyboard fluency to navigating jazz standards, he tailors his instruction to fit each student's unique learning pace, artistic interests, and personal musical goals.
